Why the XV‑01 Is the Gold Standard for Rally

The XV‑01’s front‑motor, front‑biased belt‑drive layout gives it:

  • Exceptional front‑end bite
  • Natural rotation on loose surfaces
  • Stability under braking
  • Realistic WRC weight transfer

It behaves more like a real rally car than any TT‑02‑based platform.

Baseline XV‑01 Rally Setup (Start Here)

These settings work on tarmac + gravel and suit all rally shells.

Ride Height

The XV‑01 has excellent suspension travel — use it.

  • Tarmac Rally: 10–12 mm
  • Mixed Surface: 12–14 mm
  • Gravel / Loose Dirt: 14–18 mm

Lower = sharper response. Higher = more bump absorption.

Droop (Critical for Weight Transfer)

Measured under the arm with droop gauge blocks.

  • Front: 6.0–7.0 mm
  • Rear: 7.0–8.0 mm

More droop = more grip on loose surfaces. Less droop = more precision on tarmac.

Camber

  • Front: –1.0°
  • Rear: –1.5°

Rally prefers flatter tyres for uneven terrain.

Toe

  • Front: 0° to 1° toe‑out
  • Rear: 1°–2° toe‑in

Toe‑out = better turn‑in. Toe‑in = stability on power.

Tyres & Inserts (Most Important Factor)

The XV‑01 responds dramatically to tyre choice.

Tarmac Rally (UK Roads / Car Parks)

Recommended:

  • Ride 36 Rally Block
  • Tamiya Rally Block (50476)
  • Sweep EXP Rally

Inserts:

  • Medium closed‑cell

Gravel / Loose Dirt

Recommended:

  • Ride 33 Rally Block
  • Sweep Gravel
  • Tamiya Rally Block (50476)

Inserts:

  • Soft to medium
  • More sidewall flex = more grip

Wet / Muddy Conditions

  • Deep‑lug rally tyres
  • Soft inserts
  • Vent wheels to prevent water ballooning

Shocks & Oils (Rough‑Surface Control)

The XV‑01 benefits from softer damping than touring.

Springs:

Pistons:

  • Front: 350–400 cSt
  • Rear: 300–350 cSt
  • Front: Medium
  • Rear: Medium‑soft
  • 2‑hole or 3‑hole for compliance

Belt‑Drive Protection (Essential for Rally)

The XV‑01 is robust, but gravel can damage belts if unprotected.

Must‑do items:

  • Keep the belt cover installed
  • Tape over the belt access slot
  • Use rubber‑sealed bearings
  • Grease the front pulley area lightly
  • Fit a rally bumper or foam block

Optional but recommended:

  • Dust‑proof servo tape around steering posts
  • Mesh over the front intake vents

Motors & Gearing


FDR – Gearing for Rally (13.5T / 17.5T)

Rally requires cooler gearing due to constant load.

13.5T Blinky

  • Tarmac: FDR 6.0–6.5
  • Gravel: FDR 6.5–7.0

17.5T Blinky

  • Tarmac: FDR 5.0–5.5
  • Gravel: FDR 5.5–6.0

Target motor temp: 55–70°C


Weight Balance & Chassis Setup

Battery Position

  • Forward: More steering on tarmac
  • Rearward: More traction on gravel

Chassis Flex

  • Rally prefers more flex
  • Loosen top‑deck screws slightly
  • Use softer plastic arms if available

Body Shell Setup (Subaru, Escort, Celica, Delta, Impreza)

Ride Height & Clearance

  • Raise body posts 2–4 holes
  • Trim wheel arches higher
  • Ensure full lock clearance

Bumper Protection

  • Add foam behind the front bumper
  • Prevents shell cracking on impacts

Wing

  • Keep the wing low for realism
  • High wings catch gravel and debris

Handling Problems & Quick Fixes

Understeer (won’t turn)

  • Add front toe‑out
  • Softer front springs
  • More front droop
  • Move battery forward

Oversteer (rear steps out)

  • Softer rear springs
  • More rear droop
  • Move battery rearward
  • Add rear toe‑in (if adjustable)

Bouncy on gravel

  • Softer oil
  • More droop

Bottoming out

  • Increase ride height
